Svadhyaya Book Club

Svādhyāya ~
An Eden Yoga-style book club

Svādhyāya (Devanagari: स्वाध्याय) is a Sanskrit term which means self-study and study of sacred texts.

My intention is for this to be a casual, fun get-together in which we explore yoga philosophy and how it relates to our lives.
Attend every month or whenever you can. See in-person meeting times below.

PLEASE READ:
EY Book Club Principles of Mutual Support

  1. All are welcome–believers, non-believers and everyone in-between.
Our purpose in gathering is support each other on our individual paths. We are not here to debate the validity of each others’ belief systems.
  2.  We acknowledge that not one of us present has all the answers. We learn and grow through listening with an open mind.
  3. We offer our thoughts with heartfelt sincerity and as much vulnerablity as feels safe.

In-person format*: Each month we read a few recommended chapters from the assigned “inspired” text, along with a few related verses from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. I’ll offer a few ideas or questions to get the conversation going. I can’t wait to see where our conversations lead us!
Online format: The topics, sutras, and excerpts from the readings (along with some of my thoughts on the topic) will appear in a blog format. I would love to continue the conversation online in the comments section! This also allows those who cannot be there in person to participate.

*There is no cost for this, but PLEASE let me know if you plan to attend, as the number of participants will affect our meeting location.

Svadhyaya Book Club Schedule

Every meeting we will be referring to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. There are many translations. Use B.K.S. Iyengar’s or whichever version you like.
